The One Lap of America (OLOA) is a motorsports event in the United States since 1984. It is the successor of the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, an underground auto race of the 1970s. The premise for both is to drive cross-country, but the One Lap of America respects speed limits. Competition occurs at time trials held at various race tracks around the country. The competitors drive from race track to race track, (often at 24hours at a time) without the benefit of support crews. Competition is for fastest time rather than wheel-to-wheel racing.
Jonathan Czarny and his co-driver and long time friend, Jonathan Miller want to "Give Big" and spread the great news while racing around the country with the goal to raise money for their charity, The Providence Academy in Orlando, Florida. This is a one-of-the-kind school / program that merges different services to truly do what is needed for an individual child with special needs.
Providence means "To Provide". This Not for Profit school provides a very unusual program to students who do not fit within the box of public or private school. Their students come to them with a variety of diagnoses including High Functioning Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome, ADHD and Learning Disabilities.
They have two campuses in Orlando, one in East Orlando and one on the west side. They serve children Kindergarten through 12th grade. Classes are limited to 9 children with a teacher and a teacher's assistant. Instruction is done in very small groups of two or three students and is targeted to the specific needs of the child. Students also tend to require integrated services in the areas of Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, Attention Training and/or Auditory Training, as well as Social Skills Development, and Medical and Nutritional Consultation.
